Corset Couture

Laughing Moon #100 by Raquel So you want a fun way to look more svelte? Lace up a corset in a decorative print.  No plastic surgery needed to cinch the waist. No matter your size or age, corsets are fashionable, hitting the runways, clubs, music videos and ready-to-wear venues.  This summer at Vogue Fabrics we were honored to have the return of a fan favorite, Linda Sparks from Farthingales in Canada, who taught two classes in corsetry.  At the bottom of this blog post we've embedded her recent interview on CHCH TV in Toronto this week to promote her corset fashion show at the CreativFestival .  Rye & Ginger Kit We hope to have Linda back soon, but in the meantime Elizabeth at the Vogue Fabrics in Lansing has been hosting Corset Day where she offers product demonstrations and answers your questions for corset building (check our posts on Facebook & Twitter for Corset Day info). The art of Corset Building is strong in fashion.

The art of Corset Building is strong in fashion. Industry giants Christian Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier both showcased corset styles in their Spring 2010 runway shows. Why is this style so popular and where else can we see it in the coming few years? “We’ve seen in Los Angeles that there is a high demand for fashion corsets to wear for special events as well as for going to the clubs at night,” says Linda Sparks, owner of Farthingales L.A., and author of The Basics of Corset Building. “Women are looking to get away from shapeless, fluid clothes and go into a more form flattering, knock-out design. One corset can be worn for business apparel under a suit jacket, and then become a fashion forward showpiece when the jacket is removed for an evening on the town.” Is this style going to play in Peoria? Probably not. But if you are catering to the 20-something crowd who wants fun fashion with edge, offering reasonably priced ready made corsets or ready-to-sew corset kits provide this youn...

Vogue Fabrics becomes US Distributor for Farthingales Corset Supplies

Hello everyone! Sean is letting me guest blog this entry, as I am way too excited about this announcement: Vogue Fabrics has become the official US Distributor for Farthingales corset supplies. “Egads! Corsets?!” Yes. You would be amazed at how many people need steel and spiral boning for period and theatrical costumes, historical reenactment, bridal and evening wear, even to give more body to haute couture jackets. Now you will have one stop shopping to pick up bones, busks, patterns plus all the fabrics and trims, producing a more complete shopping experience. These items will ship from our warehouse near Chicago, so shipping to all points in the US will be greatly reduced compared to shipping cross-country or from Canada. You can read more about the distributorship in our Press Release, and view all the products on our site. Well, almost all. I still have a few more to upload, but I think you get the picture. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at myvo...
