I'm very proud of the work we do, the fabrics we offer, and the overall service we provide. I really think we offer a special value and proper service to the sewing community. We have always prided ourselves on being a mom and pop fabric store, much like my grandfather started 60+ years ago.
So, I have been looking into having our site optimized for search engines. Hopefully, it would increase our organic listings for the thousands of products we offer online and in our stores. I was looking at one of the reports and really can't decide how to interpret their opinion. I'll paste what they recommend...
"Readability Level: College Undergraduate
This score measures the approximate level of education necessary to read and understand the web page content. In most cases, the content should be made to be simple so that a majority of the target audience can understand it."
So, in their opinion we should dumb up our site, to make it easier to understand. I was raised to not talk down to anyone. We certainly don't write our product descriptions to impress anyone by using power words retrieved from http://www.dictionary.com/. But we do spell check.
We do try and use images to convey the beauty or specialness of a fabric. We may even try to come up with some fancy alternative word for colors like Blue and Red by using "Mediteranean Blue" or "Pimento Red". But, that's just us trying to be creative.
So, to our loyal customers and lifelong fans of the store. We don't intend on changing the way we do anything unless you're the one's making the requests and/or recommendations.
Please know that we are just simple fabric merchants, armed with a box of 164 crayons for color names, and a whole lot of passion for fabric and sewing.
